Gyeongbuk-do and Gyeongju are set to attract JINYOUNG Industry, Korea’s leading auto components forging company, providing an opportunity to expand the auto components value chain to the city of Gyeongju and integrate related industries.
On the 31st, Gyeongbuk-do and Gyeongju announced they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the construction of a car forging components production plant at Gyeongju City Hall, attended by Gyeongsangbuk-do Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Lee Dal-hee, Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young, and JINYOUNG Industry CEOs Jeong Gil-sang and Ahn Jeong-mo.
With this KRW 80 billion investment agreement, JINYOUNG Industry will utilize 58,600 m2 (approx. 17,726 pyeong) in Gyeongju’s Myeonggye 3rd General Industrial Complex. The plan includes the construction of a production plant for combustion engine cars and electric vehicle forging components, ultimately generating around 160 new jobs.
Established in 1976, JINYOUNG Industry is a middle-standing company with nearly 50 years of remarkable experience and competitiveness in the auto forging field.
Its main clients include Hyundai and Kia Motor, as well as their affiliates, Hyundai TRANSYS and Hyundai WIA. The company also founded its subsidiary, Masung Industrial, in Mungyeong in 1993 and has been operating it since.
This investment is comprehensive, covering components for both auto internal combustion engines and electric vehicles. Notably, it holds significance as it addresses the constantly high demand for internal combustion engines, particularly in developing countries, and contributes to the production of parts for electric vehicles, which are considered the cars of the future.
Meanwhile, Gyeongju secured its designation as an SMR National Industrial Complex last March, marking a pivotal moment where the city positions itself as a leader in both mobility and nuclear energy, representing its future flagship industries.
JINYOUNG Industry CEO Jeong Gil-sang plans to make an active investment in R&D and the staff’s skills development. Highlighting a commitment to the growth of the local community, he also emphasized preferential hiring for Gyeongju citizens in the newly constructed plant.
Gyeongsangbuk-do Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Lee Dal-hee said, “This investment is like priming water for several companies to rush to Gyeongju, especially with its designation as an SMR National Industrial Complex.” He added, “We hope that JINYOUNG Industry’s expertise in making internal combustion forging components extends to electric vehicles, and we will actively support the company in its growth.”
