In a collaborative effort between Gyeongsangbuk-do (Governor Lee Cheol-woo) and Yeongcheon, a “Memorandum of Understanding on Investment in the Construction of Logistics Facilities” was signed between LOGEN Co., Ltd, one of the four major delivery companies, and Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority at the Yeongcheon City Hall conference room on July 27.
Twenty people attended the signing ceremony, including Gyeongsangbuk-do Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Lee Dal-hee, Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority Commissioner Kim Byeong-sam, Yeongcheon Mayor Choi Gi-mun, LOGEN CEO Choi Jong-ho, Gyeongsangbuk-do Council’s Planning and Economy Committee Chairman Lee Choon-woo, Gyeongsangbuk-do Council’s Education Committee Chairman Yoon Seung-oh, city council members, relevant public officials, and business representatives.
This large-scale project sees a KRW 125.9 billion investment by LOGEN Co., Ltd in a logistics facility area (approx. 38,000 pyeong) within the Yeongcheon Hi-Tech Park District to establish an integrated logistics terminal in the Yeongnam region by combining four logistics facilities in Daegu, Busan, and Chilgok, such as distribution warehouses, automation equipment, and storage facilities.
LOGEN is ranked fourth in terms of national market share with 10 distribution terminals nationwide, following CJ Logistics, HANJIN, and LOTTE. As a subsidiary of Daemyung Chemical Group, boasting 49 affiliates spanning fashion, real estate, and electronic components, the company constantly makes large-scale investments in regions outside metropolitan areas to build an online shopping ecosystem and enhance logistics expertise.
LOGEN plans to hire around 900 workers from the local community through mutual cooperation with the city of Yeongcheon, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy and job creation. It also aims to solidify its position as a logistics leader in the Yeongnam region in line with the opening of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport.
Gyeongbuk-do (Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority), in collaboration with Yeongcheon, plans to offer continued diverse support to companies investing in the region. The focus is on attracting an *anchor company, with the belief that the industrial complex will gain more momentum, starting with the investment in an integrated logistics terminal in Yeongcheon Hi-Tech Park.
*Anchor company: It refers to a company that moves in first, leading to a chain of other companies following suit.
Gyeongsangbuk-do Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Lee said, “We hope the establishment of an integrated logistics terminal in the Yeongnam region will drive increased activity in the Yeongcheon Hi-Tech Park District. With the development of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport as an air logistics hub, we will provide full support to propel Yeongcheon to become Korea’s land logistics hub.”
Meanwhile, Yeongcheon is considered to have the optimal conditions for logistics distribution, positioned as a transportation hub in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region with eight connected highway toll gates. In addition, its proximity to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport will further enhance its status in the future.
