Gyeongbuk’s Traditional Houses and Pavilions to Be Famous as UNESCO World Heritage
- - Gyeongsangbuk-do Province carries forward a project of combining houses and pavilions lying scattered in Korea and inscribing them on the UNESCO World Heritage List. ▶Gyeongsangbuk-do, having 9 houses and pavilions designated as Treasure

Totally 290 houses and pavilions are designated as the cultural properties in Korea and 102 of them are concentrated in Gyeongsnagbuk-do. Those houses and pavilions were also the places where the classical scholars deeply thought of the issues of nature and human while looking at nature and composed poems and songs.

▶The houses and pavilions valuable enough to become World Heritage

By carrying forward inion of the houses and pavilions on the UNESCO World Heritage List, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to get power for practically using them and establish the system of organized preservation and management of such houses and pavilions. It is because we think the houses and pavilions are valuable enough to become World Heritage when considering their historical, cultural and educational value. Especially, when such houses and pavilions are designated as World Heritage Site, it is expected that the brand value of the related cities will be increased as well as tourists will be attracted, thereby vitalizing the local economy.

Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to conclude the service contract of basic design until the end of July this year, then set up a division for promoting inion of the houses and pavilions on the UNESCO World Heritage List and consult with related organizations including Cultural Heritage Administration in August, then make agreements with other Provinces such as Honam area in December, and then continue successive work including, but not limited to, selecting candidates for application of inion.
