The Ministry of Construction and Transportation will inject 5.15 trillion won, 82 percent of last years amount, into the expansion or construction of highways and national roads this year.
The ministry said on Friday (Feb. 24) that this years funding would focus on completing roads under construction with minimal new construction projects.
This year, the ministry intends to finish expanding the Yeongdong-Gimcheon (34km) and Gimcheon-Gumi (13km) segments on the Seoul-Busan Expressway, the Okpo-Seongsan (13km) and Damyang-Goseo (17km) segments on the 88 Expressway, the 27km-long Jangseong-Damyang Expressway and four others.
It will start work this year on expanding the following segments: Yangjae-Giheung (29km) on the Seoul-Busan Expressway, Singal-Hobeop (32km) on the Yeongdong Expressway, and Jinju-Masan (50km) on the Namhae Expressway, while building a new 45km-long highway between Eumseong and Cheongju.
With regard to national roads, work on construction or expansion for Hongcheon-Inje, Ildong-Idong and 56 other roads and segments covering 578 kilometers will be finished, while work on the Inhwa-Ganghwa road and 26 other segments covering 265 kilometers will start this year, according to the ministry.
