The Regional Consultative Meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on Sub-national Innovation Systems is being held at the Ramada Seoul Hotel Jan. 18-20 to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies.
The Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), the Daedeok Innopolis and the UNESCAP jointly host the meeting under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The event aims to set up efficient sub-national innovation systems crucial to sharpening the competitive edge of smaller companies.
On hand at the meeting are some 50 policy makers, experts, consultants and representatives from 14 countries including UNESCAP commerce-investment director Xuan Zengpel, STEPI President Chung Sung-chul and Daedeok Innopolis Director Park In-cheol.
Prof. Lim Deok-soon of Pohang University of Science and Technology and Dr. S.P. Agawal delivered a keynote speech on policies for constructing sub-national innovation systems and strategies to strengthen capacity to innovate technology at the first session of the meeting, which is comprised of three sessions and one mediation committee meeting.
Success stories of Japan, Singapore, Germany and Malaysia will be presented in the second session, while representatives and experts from 14 member countries will introduce their policies to small and medium-sized companies, seeking strategies to help them develop advanced technology.
