The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF) presented an award recently to the nations best scientists in four fields.
The four winners of the 10th Korea Science Award are Prof. Kang Seok-jin, 44, of the department of mathematical sciences of Seoul National University in the field of mathematics; Prof. Lee Seong-ik, 53, of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in physics; Prof. Kim Dong-ho, 49 of Yonsei University in chemistry and Prof. Nam Hong-kil, 49, of POSTECH in bio-science.
The winners were ed out of the nations 18 top-class scientists recommended by related organizations and agencies since the middle of last year, by the screening committee consisting of 19 experts from the fields of science and technology.
The science award has been presented biannually since 1987 and so far given to 33 scientists including six in mathematics, nine in physics, 10 in chemistry and eight in bio-science.
The MOST and KOSEF are aiming to encourage morale of scientists through the science award
