The National Oceanographic Research Institute plans to name ten reefs around the East Sea island cluster Dokdo.
The ten reefs are all two or three kilometers from Dokdo.The state marine research institute said it will assign the reefs Korean names which reflect Dokdos unique features. It is collecting possible names from residents of the nearby island Ulleung-do.
The Ministry of Construction and Transportation named 22 rocks around Dokdo last year. According to the related law, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation is to name geographical features that appear over the sea surface at low tide. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries names features that stay below the surface even at low tide.
