Gyeongsangbuk-do Signs MOU with KOTRA for APEC Summit Success
- Establishing a strategic partnership to expand global trade and investment and revitalize the local economy -
Gyeongsangbuk-do Province (Governor Lee Cheol-woo) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA, President Kang Kyung-sung) signed a memorandum of erstanding (MOU) on May 23, 2025 (Friday), at the Sarim Room (Room 309) of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Office. This agreement includes comprehensive cooperation plans for the successful hosting of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, as well as for the economic revitalization of Gyeongsangbuk-do, including overseas expansion of local companies, investment attraction, and youth employment expansion.
Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to ly collaborate in the following areas: share global trade and investment trends and related ination; support overseas expansion of Gyeongsangbuk-do’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and middle-standing enterprises; attract foreign investment and reshoring companies; support domestic and international employment and entrepreneurship for young people and collaborate on job creation efforts; promote mutual staff exchanges and revitalize the local economy; and enhance global and cultural exchanges.
In particular, KOTRA plans to actively utilize its global network of 131 overseas offices in 85 countries to operate various partnership programs, enabling Gyeongsangbuk-do–d companies to connect with the global market and achieve tangible results.
Along with this, during the APEC Summit, Gyeongsangbuk-do and KOTRA are jointly preparing a series of economic cooperation events, including the Korea-APEC Business Partnership trade consultation, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Investment Forum for APEC Member States, and the Export Fair. These events aim to help participating companies in the province promote their products and services in the global market and create new opportunities with international partners.
Furthermore, through this MOU, Gyeongsangbuk-do and KOTRA have pledged to cooperate on trade and investment within the province. They plan to continue personnel exchanges between organizations and strengthen efforts to revitalize the local economy. To this end, both organizations will exchange ination on trade and investment trends and related policies while jointly carrying out initiatives to attract foreign investment, thereby helping Gyeongsangbuk-do Province to leap forward as a global economic hub.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo stated, “This year is even more significant as the APEC Summit is being held in Gyeongju.” He emphasized, “This opportunity will serve as a stepping stone for SMEs and middle-standing enterprises in Gyeongsangbuk-do to expand their presence in the global market,” adding, “Together with KOTRA, we will strengthen the local economy by attracting leading global companies and creating quality jobs.”
Meanwhile, Kang Kyung-sung, President of KOTRA, stated, “This agreement marks a shared commitment to the future of Gyeongsangbuk-do and KOTRA. This year, the 2025 APEC Summit in Gyeongju will serve as a plat that will brighten the path for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. KOTRA will also continue to strengthen its collaboration with Gyeongsangbuk-do to ensure the success of the 2025 APEC Summit, building on this agreement.”
