On May 13, the Kyungpook National University (KNU) Alumni Association (hereinafter the “Alumni Association”) and Nara Cellar Co., Ltd. visited the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Office to donate KRW 20 million to the Community Chest of Korea for wildfire recovery efforts.
This donation aims to support victims who lost their homes because of the recent large-scale wildfire. Of the total amount, KRW 15 million was raised by the Alumni Association and KRW 5 million by Nara Cellar Co., Ltd. Among those in attendance at the ceremony were Ma Seung-cheol, President of the Alumni Association and CEO of Nara Cellar, and Lee Hae-il, Secretary-General of the Alumni Association.
Nara Cellar Co., Ltd., headquartered in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, is a specialized wine importer and distributor. Since its listing on the Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (KOSDAQ) in June 2023, the company has been expanding its business areas. In particular, it plans to invest KRW 10 billion by the first half of 2026 to establish a new production facility for Andong Soju within the Gyeongbuk Bio Industrial Complex in Andong.
President Ma Seung-cheol stated, “I hope for a swift recovery of daily life for those affected by the wildfire,” and added, “The Alumni Association will continue to make efforts to support neighbors in need through future outreach efforts.”
Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo expressed his gratitude, saying, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Alumni Association and the Nara Cellar employees for their warm-hearted support despite the challenging circumstances,” and added, “The provincial government will do its utmost to ensure the affected residents can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
