On November 16 (Wednesday), Gyeongsangbuk-do held a meeting with 22 people from 11 food-related companies in Andong and Yecheon at the main conference room of the Gyeongbuk Institute for Bioindustry.
This meeting was designed to bring together food industry-related companies in Andong and Yecheon for a discussion of strategies to expand the food, beverage, and liquor cluster ed in such areas and also to attract additional investment from food, beverage, and equipment and material companies d in the Seoul metropolitan area.
During this meeting, there was a heated conversation on how to attract additional investment from related companies, including those that produce beverage bottles and packaging equipment and materials for bio foods, such as soju, kimchi, makgeolli, and nuts. There were also lively exchanges of opinions on various pending corporate issues, such as the shortage of warehouses in the industrial complex, the establishment of distribution-related transportation infrastructure, and difficulties caused by skyrocketing raw material prices.
Furthermore, the participating corporate officials noted that companies are having a difficult time due to labor shortages and a surge of labor regulations enforced over the past few years, including the 52-hour work week and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and stressed that it is more important than anything else to create an environment for companies that enables business management as their sole .
In response, Koh Jae-gwang, head of the Andong District Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, who was invited to the meeting to reflect the interests of local companies in labor law-related issues, gave a lecture on working hours and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act from the standpoints of both labor and management and provided answers to the questions posed by the participating companies.
On November 4, 2022, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Andong City laid the growork for the Andong region to establish itself as a mecca for distilled liquors including its Andong Soju through the attraction of the investment from Kim Chang Soo Distillery in the Gyeongbuk Bio 2nd General Industrial Complex within Andong.
Joongha Hwang, head of the Investment Promotion Office of Gyeongsangbuk-do said, We are making efforts to attract investment to our region not only from food-related companies like Kim Chang Soo Distillery but also from companies producing food containers and packaging equipment and materials which operate in the value chain of beverage and food manufacturing businesses. We will continue to exchange ination on companies that need to be included in the value chain of existing industries by hosting meetings among companies in the same industry.”
