The Spirit and History

Gyeongsanbuk-do is the preface of a glorious province that was established enriched with the cultures of Buddhism, the mysterious Gaya culture, the scholarly aspects of Confucianism, and the beliefs of Korean nationalism that holds the citizens as their first and foremost priority.

In addition, having overcome a national crisis successfully due to their patriotic allegiance, the province initiated Sae-Maeul Undong(Movement), new village movement, and Nature Conservation Movement that aids in upholding a national perspective.

The residents of Gyeongsanbuk-do have inherited the patriotic and scholarly perspective of loyalty and perseverance, and along with a strong sense of justice that will aid in progressing and developing the modern industries of the future.

Natural and Cultural Environment

Filled with a scenic natural landscape and 335km of a long eastern coastline that still remains untouched by man, Gyeongsanbuk-do has been established as the center of the textile industry in the global steel country and has been the driving force of economic growth. Having the most amount of universities after Seoul, the region remains credited for educating many researchers and technicians.

In addition, the province holds rich cultural resources along with tourism resources that places Gyeongsanbuk-do within the center of tourism and bridges ancient culture and a modern society together.

Historic towns in Korea: Hahoe and Yangdong

  • Gyeongju Yangdong Village

    Gyeongju Yangdong Village

    • A UNESCO certified cultural assets, Yangdong Village, holds a total of 23 cultural assets of Korea including one national treasure and other four treasures. 155 members of descendents of the original families still reside in the village.

  • Hahoe Village of Andong

    Hahoe Village of Andong

    • Hahoe village was named because Nakdonggang's "S" shape coils around the village. Confucian culture and traditional folk culture still prosper through traditional mask dance and firework.

Gyeongju Seokguram, Bulguksa

  • Gyeongju Seokguram : Sururam is a man-made grotto that houses a Buddhist shrine on the eastern slope of Tohamsan mountain.
  • Gyeongju Bulguksa : Temple built in Unifed Silla Kingdom era(Dabotap, Seokgatap)
