Gyeongsangbuk-do, the province where the spirits of three major historical cultures live on, and where beautiful natural environments with the clean East Sea, the grand Sobaek mountain range, and the 700-ri Nakdonggang are located, is a valuable region where everyone wants to live.

Gyeongsangbuk-do is a rich land with fresh ingredients and various foods coming from the coastal area bordering East Sea, which is full of fresh seafood and marine plants; the high rugged mountains, which boast various fragrant wild herbs and vegetables; and the vast plain in the basin of Nakdonggang, which is full of rice and grains thanks to the rice and dry-field farming methods that were developed early on.

In addition to the wonderful natural environment, the cookbooks featuring our region’s traditional dishes reflect our ancestors’ persistence and food cultures, which give us a sense of pride. Especially, the 450-year-old “Su-woon-jaap-bhang” of Andong’s main family and the 17th-century “Eum-sik-dee-mee-bhang” that was organized by the Andong Jang family to hand down the family recipes to their daughters and daughters-in-law are the books that exhibit our ancestors’ quintessential and remarkable traditional recipes. They contain excellent data that serve as proofs that the traditional and historical food culture of Gyeongsangbuk-do has been famous since the olden times.
